The Internet has made it easy to keep tabs on your competitors. To know who you’re competing with in your current market, all you have to do is Google your major keywords. As most people use Google to find products and services, the people at the top of your list are likely to be your toughest competitors. This process, however, only allows you to see the people you’re competing with today. What about the people you’re going to compete with tomorrow? If you want to keep ahead of the game, it’s vital to know what to do to find tomorrow’s competitors.

One way to look for upcoming competitors is to look beyond the first few pages in the search engine results. Every site has to climb the ladder to get to the top, and some ascensions are more visible than others. Take note of the people behind you as well as those ahead, because they not stay behind you for long!

This of course will only help you find competitors who are using the same keywords as you are. Keep in touch with changes to the keywords for your industry by keeping tabs on your current competitors. In your initial analysis of competitors for SEO, you should have spotted the competitor websites that keep up with their search engine optimisation. Keeping tabs on them can help you spot new keywords to target for your own efforts; failing to keep tabs on them can see your competitors move far ahead of you in the rankings, and in business.
