Fans of claymation stars Wallace & Gromit will be delighted to find that today the pair grace the front page of search engine giant Google. The cheesy grin sporting cheese lover Wallace, and his faithful and much suffering dog Gromit, are the subject of today’s Google Doodle to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the pair.
Has it really been 20 years since Wallace’s Grand Day Out?
Wallace and Gromit were created by Bristol based animation company Ardman and the bowtie wearing animator Nick Park. Since the first grand day out for Wallace and Gromit, the pair have starred in more adventures such as The Wrong Trousers and Curse of the Were-Rabbit, winning many Oscars for Nick Park in the process.
Google often features adapted logos on its homepage to commemorate special occasions, events and birthdays. Notable people in history, from Ghandi to Michael Jackson, have had their birthday commemorated by Google in the form of a Google Doodle.
Perhaps the most famous of the Google Doodles was the series of UFO and alien themed doodles, prompting Internet speculation around why Google was featuring aliens. The truth wasn’t nearly as exciting as the speculation however as Google was merely celebrating the birthday of HG Wells, the author of War of the Worlds.
It is great to see Wallace & Gromit recognised in this way I like the fact that their is very little in the way of computer generated content coming from Aardman, they just stick to their guns and make great TV & Film.
